DOVER -- There was something special in the air at Dover International Speedway for Rick Woodard on Thursday, and it was not just the mouth-watering aroma of hamburgers cooking on the grill in the Craftsman Truck Series garage area.

Woodard graduated from Christiana High in 1971 and lived in Delaware until 2000, when he moved to the Fort Myers, Fla., area to oversee his house construction business.

"I was really excited about coming home," Woodard said. "My mom still lives in Bethany Beach and she is here this weekend, as are several other of my family members."

With his housing business booming, Woodard decided to pursue his dream of becoming a race car owner. He owned a car in the ARCA Series for two years before moving to the Truck Series this year.
