That same genuine smile appears in the more recent photograph her daughter, Carol Fairchild, a Wilmington resident, chose to publish with her mother's obituary in the Star-News.

"That picture was her, all smiles," said George Baughman, her husband of almost 50 years. "God did me a favor. She was beautiful from head to toe."

Rachel Baughman, a native of Bunn and resident of Wrightsville Beach, died June 23 at age 73. Her life was celebrated Tuesday in a funeral service at the Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home in Wilmington.

Rachel Baughman also traveled a lot outside the United States. Her family visited countries all over the world, such as France, Egypt and China, George Baughman said.

Other surivivors include five stepsons: William Baughman, George D. Baughman, Douglas Baughman, Nicholas Baughman and Tommy Baughman. They all live in Pennsylvania.

When she wasn't spending time with her family, she was active in the Disabled American Veterans. Her husband served in the Korean War and World War II.

She also was dedicated to the Harbor Island Garden Club in Wrightsville Beach. She grew up on a tobacco farm so planting and working outside was in her blood, George Baughman said.
