The Autorite des marches financiers has fined and revoked a broker's licence for hindering the Quebec securities watchdog's investigation into the now defunct Mount Real Corp.

Yesterday, the Autorite announced that Carole Dorion will have to pay a $5,000 fine and will no longer be able to work as a group savings plan broker.

The regulator said Dorion "interfered in an abusive manner" in its investigation of the Mount Real investment scandal while she was working as a broker for iForum Securities Inc.

Some iForum brokers were selling their clients promissory notes issued illegally by affiliates of Mount Real until the regulator shut down the two companies in November 2005.

In May, the AMF handed down three-month suspensions and fines to two former iForum investment advisers and an insurance firm for improper communication with clients on the Mount Real scandal.
