The current and former NBA big men were both named in a 12-man squad to journey across the Tasman for matches that will serve as a warm-up to the World Championships in Japan in August.

But there was no room for power forward Matt Nielsen after the insurance dispute that scratched him from Australia's calculations for the championships.

Four players, including David Barlow and Steve Markovic, will be making their international debuts on the tour, and overall the squad has a distinctly different look from the one that took Australia to a predictable Commonwealth Games gold in Melbourne earlier this year.

Only five players have been retained from that tournament, with the rest earning their spots by impressing coach Brian Goorjian during a five-day training camp in the NSW Central Coast town of Terrigal.

Boomers squad: Chris Anstey, David Barlow, Andrew Bogut, Aaron Bruce, Wade Helliwell, Russell Hinder, Luke Kendall, Sam Mackinnon, Aleks Maric, Steve Markovic, Brad Newley, Jason Smith.
