"We want this to be a community event to bring families, friends and (Canyon) alumni together. It's a celebration of Jacob's life - we want this to be fun," Velarde said.

Jacob is receiving treatment at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and at the Immune Institute of Orange County. His mom had been working as the family outreach coordinator for the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children's Cancer in Santa Clarita, but has resigned in order to care for Jacob and his sisters: Jessica, a senior at Canyon, and Joelle, an eighth-grader at Sierra Vista Junior High.

Donations can be made and pledge forms for the Walk-A-Thon can be downloaded at www.canyonhighcowboys.com/track by clicking on "Jacob's Page." Those unable to attend the Walk-a-Thon can mail a card of support or make a donation by sending checks payable to Jacob DeLong to the DeLong Family, 17716 Hillsboro Place, Canyon Country.
