A Clifton resident was sentenced Monday to three years' probation and ordered to pay $36,875 in restitution after pleading guilty to stealing insurance claim checks she was in charge of processing.

Cindy Crissien, 23, was employed as office manager of an Essex County dental facility when she diverted approximately 48 dental insurance claim checks into her personal account between Oct. 1, 2002 and May 17, 2004, according to the state Attorney General's Office.

An investigation by the state's Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor also found that Crissien submitted more than $2,650 in personal dental insurance claims to MetLife services for seven tooth fillings she never received, according to the Attorney General's Office.

In addition to paying back the $36,875, the defendant was ordered by Essex County state Superior Court Judge Nancy Sivilli to pay a $15,000 fine.
