The company's net income was $77 million, or 65 cents a share, in the three-month period ended June 30, compared with $53.6 million or 47 cents a share, in the same quarter a year ago.

Operating cash flow was negative $6.9 million in the second quarter of 2006 compared to negative operating cash flow of $10.7 in the second quarter of 2005. Company officials attributed the results to a build-up of Medicare Part D and other receivables worth approximately $50 million, and because of $16 million in payments to settle provider disputes.

Health plan enrollment, barring Medicare Part D, rose by 22,000 members from the first quarter, to 3.4 million. Stand-alone Part D enrollment increased by 33,000 to 288,000.

Health Net reported Oregon commercial membership of 127,540 in the first quarter of 2006, down 1 percent from the same quarter a year ago, according to the most recent Oregon Insurance Division filings available.
