LONDON (AFX) - World Television Group PLC said first-half pretax profit was 298,000 stg against a loss of 352,000 a year earlier as it wrote-back a 496,000 stg provision against a HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) claim.

In June, the company won its appeal against HMRC's claim concerning potential PAYE and National Insurance contributions dating back to March 2000.

Turnover for the six months ended June 30 fell to 4.75 mln stg from 5.13 mln a year earlier due to the sale of loss-making Kamera Content and Foroso units.

Looking ahead, the company said it is cautiously optimistic for the remaining six months of 2006. Underlying group revenues in the third quarter are showing growth of approximately 10 pct and the strong upward trend in webcasting revenues is continuing.
