Sito (11-3) also helped her own cause with a big 3-for-4 performance at the plate, with a triple, two runs scored and three RBIs. She helped the Pioneers bash their way into the regional finals with a 10-2 win over Garfield Heights at Clyde High School.

Before Garfield Heights (22-4) had a chance to bat, it was down 2-0. Bashak delivered the big hit, a two-out, two-run double that scored both Andrea Nagy and Sito.

The Pioneers kept swinging their red-hot bats in the second. After retiring the first two hitters of the inning, Garfield Heights pitcher Jerrica Sweetnich allowed the next four hitters to reach base.

No. 9 hitter Jessica Bellottie doubled and scored on a triple by Kristin Sito. Nagy walked, and Tess Sito cleared the bases with a two-run single.

Elyria was without the services of sophomore second baseman Jessica Mandula, who suffered a deep bone bruise during Monday's 8-0 win over North Olmsted. Bellottie, who had never played second before, took her place and did an exceptional job.

Elyria tacked on two more in the fifth thanks to an RBI triple by Tess Sito and an RBI single by Bashak, and two more insurance runs in the seventh, thanks to pinch-hitter Ann Bally's two-run bloop single.

''Once we got up to eight, I got a bit comfortable,'' Fenik said. ''At 5-0, I was not comfortable. I've been doing this for too long and seen too many things happen, I'm never comfortable.

Sito had runners on second and third with one out in the first inning, but retired the next two hitters. From that point on, she set down five straight hitters and 17 of the next 18 batters she faced. An error by Bashak to lead off the third was the only bump in Sito's road. She retired the side in four of her seven innings of work.

With the game in hand, Sito and Elyria allowed Garfield Heights to score twice in the bottom of the seventh. However, Elyria, a team with no seniors, is just one game away from making its fourth appearance in the state semifinals.
